GridWind.20kW inverter
GridWind 20kW.550VAC.220/380VAC inverter
A new 20 kW grid-tie inverter has gone on sale. It was developed specifically for use with wind turbines, without battery banks for energy storage. The largest "battery" for electrical energy is the public grid itself. Using grid-tie inverters together with reversible (bidirectional) energy meters allows surplus energy to be exported to the grid and drawn back from it when energy from "alternative" sources is unavailable or insufficient.
Purpose:
- The inverter converts the variable-frequency AC voltage produced by a wind turbine into 220/380 V, 50 Hz AC and exports the turbine's power to the public grid
- The inverter has an intelligent control system that sets the amount of power exported to the grid according to the frequency of the AC voltage produced by the turbine (which depends on the turbine's rotational speed)
